Lehmann, 38, who played 27 Tests and 117 one-day internationals, will play for the Rajasthan Royals, the Jaipur-based franchise captained by his friend and former Australian teammate Shane Warne.
Smith will miss the Royals’ first two games, according to Cricinfo.
Lehmann retired from first-class cricket with South Australia last season after a fantastic first-class career which scores 25,795 runs at 57.83.
Lehmann played 27 Tests from 1998-2004, scoring 1798 runs at 44.95, and also played in the 1999 and 2003 World Cup victories for CA.
