Ahmedabad: Lahore Badshahs stamped its class with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Mumbai Champs in the Indian Cricket League match at the Sardar Patel Stadium here on Thursday night. The Lahore Badshahs’ batsmen lit up the Ahmedabad skies with a dazzling array of shots while chasing Mumbai Champs’ 140.
It was Lahore Badshah’s second victory from four matches while Mumbai Champs continue to scrape the bottom with its fourth consecutive loss. The match also concluded the ICL’s Ahmedabad leg as the action shifts to Gurgaon from Friday.
Cruise mode
The chase was a fifth-gear cruise as opener Imran Nazir (83 n.o., 38b, 5×4, 9×6) ruined Michael Kasprowicz’s first over with a sequence of 4,4,4,6,6,6 as the ball kept disappearing into the stands. Taking the cue, Nazir’s partner Imran Farhat (21) carted Johannes van der Wath for 20 runs before trudging back after a wild heave. The openers shared a 59-run partnership with the 50 coming in just 15 balls — a record, according to the organisers.
There was a brief lull as Rana Naved ul Hasan fell but with Inzamam ul Haq (27 n.o.) and Nazir clouting leg-spinner Shridhar Iyer over mid-wicket, the pursuit gathered steam again. Nazir struck three sixes in an Avinash Yadav over and fittingly hit the winning shot, another huge blow over long-off.
Lahore Badshahs scored 141 for two in 13.2 overs.
Earlier after Inzamam ul Haq won the toss and opted to field, Mumbai Champs scored 140 for five in 20 overs.
The scores: Mumbai Champs 140 for five in 20 overs (Dheeraj Jadhav 57, Taufeeq Umar 41, Tahir Mughal three for 28) lost to Lahore Badshahs 141 for two in 13.2 overs (Imran Nazir 83 n.o., Inzamam ul Haq 27 n.o., Imran Farhat 21).
